Ultrasound #2

We had our 20 week checkup recently and found out lots of good news. We have a healthy baby and a healthy momma so the most important signs are all good. The doctor told us Chewie is nearly 12 ounces right now, or the size of a decent steak as I put it. He also said that all progress looks great right now and the heartbeat is still very strong.

We got to look at another ultrasound and it was amazing to see the level of development this time. We saw the skull, spinal chord, feet, hands, nose, eye sockets (kinda creepy) and some internal organs like the stomach and bladder. Unfortunately, baby Chewie was butt up most of the time and the doc couldn't get a good view of the face so the 3D picture was just legs- good looking stems though, if you ask me.

Here's a few of the ultrasound pics that we scanned:

In case you're wondering, we did find out the sex of the baby, but certain individuals don't want to know so I'm refraining from posting it here- which is making writing a lot more difficult. So if you know already, then you also know who not to tell, and if you don't know, just ask.

I also want to send a public thank you out to Teresa. I was away in Dallas for an interview on Friday and Saturday of last week and I got a call from Kelly telling me that the stroller system we registered for was already delivered. She told me Teresa snagged it for us all the way from Kabul, Afghanistan. I didn't realize they had Babies R Us over there so apparently our Western ways are winning them over :) So T- thank you so much! You rock, stay safe, and we're going to buy you a few margaritas when you're back in town. Expect some pics of Tater taking a ride very soon!

Update

So what's new in the world of expectant parents you ask? Well, you don't ask but I'll tell you anyway since I've been lazy lately and haven't been doing much writing...

We've been doing some daycare shopping recently so Kelly and I get to spend a couple lunches a week together, which is nice. We've seen some great facilities and some places that I wouldn't leave Tater at for more than a couple hours. I think we've settled on one that's close to Kelly's work and I know that regardless of who we decide to trust Chewie's care to, we will be a mess on the first day we leave him/her.

Other than that, things have been pretty tame here on the homefront. We are gearing up for the 20 week checkup and ultrasound and still deciding whether or not to find out the baby's sex. We have some visitors coming to town in the next couple of weeks so we will be busy again soon. Until next time...

Tater Bjorn

I rarely double-dip on posts but today is a special day. Stacy sent us her old Baby Bjorn carrier (thanks Stacy!) and we decided to test it out on our little baby- Tater. He is approximately 15lbs and is terrified of just about everything, but for this bit of torture he seemed almost content. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

Another bump pic. It's growing...

A World of Stuff

Today we registered for stuff. I use the word stuff because after 2 hours of walking around Babies R Us that's the only word that accurately describes the multitude of items it takes to feed, protect, clothe, and amuse an infant. Plus I can't remember half of what we scanned so "stuff" will have to do for a description.

I know that we found a kick-ass stroller (is that an oxymoron?) and a really comfortable gliding chair and ottoman. We found some animals for the wall and I learned the meaning of terms like splat mat, neck wings, and wee block (see below). I was easily amused by the ridiculous pictures on many of the boxes- my favorite being the bouncer box that had a baby wearing an apple hat, collared shirt and sweater vest. Apparently he just got back from a long day of driving his cab and now he's ready to bounce for a little while before chillin with his binky.

If you don't know- ask your mother.

I think Kelly and I both agreed that there should be less choices for all the stuff you need. There are 19 different types of tushy wipes and at least 40 different brands of diapers. I feel comfortable saying that Chewie probably won't care as long as he/she is not wallowing in filth for hours. But I'm sure I'm wrong.

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience and it was fun to see all the little nuggets in the store. I made faces towards at least 10 little kids who all had the same "he is large and dark" look on their faces. But most of them smiled in return. I also noticed that I had a less annoyed look on my face than the other men I saw in the store. Maybe this was baby #2 for them or maybe their wives are insane and Kelly is a little too cool to be psycho. Whatever the case, I actually enjoyed those two hours of shopping more than any other shopping I've done. That's not to say that I want to do it again any time soon :)

Bump-her Sticker

Clearly this is the cheesiest blog title yet but my cheesiness grows in proportion with the belly. I ordered this bumper sticker a few days after Kelly started to show for the sole purpose of slapping it on her stomach. I don't think she was as amused as I was but as per usual she gave in to my oddly placed enthusiasm. What can I say? I'm a huge dork.

I guess this leaves no guessing about who we voted for...

Oh yeah- HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIELLE!!

More to come, but here's a couple belly shots to satisfy all you picture hounds...
